Chris specialises in corporate, commercial and intellectual property law and is based in our Market Harborough office. He advises on mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures, private equity and investments and regularly advises on international transactions. Chris also advises on commercial disputes including director and shareholder disputes, contractual disputes and intellectual property infringement actions.

 

In addition to his role with Summerfield Browne Limited he is also a legal advisor with the Institute of Directors and holds a legal surgery each Tuesday at the IOD’s premises in Pall Mall, London.

Joanna McKenzie, Senior Consultant Solicitor (Commercial and Intellectual Property Litigation)

 

Joanna is a consultant in the firm’s Dispute Resolution team.  Joanna is a Commercial and Intellectual Property litigator who deals with a variety of disputes ranging from professional negligence claims, debt recovery, breach of contract claims as well as business and company matters such as shareholder disputes and Partnership disputes.  She has a keen interest in Intellectual Property and advises on copyright and trademark issues as well as passing off and breach of confidentiality.  Joanna is an advocate of alternative dispute resolution, especially Mediation.  However if necessary she is experienced in taking matters to the County Court, High Court (both Queens Bench and Chancery Divisions), and if necessary the Court of Appeal.

Adam Tolfree, Patent Agent/ Trade Mark Agent

 

Adam is a patent and trade mark agent and assists a range of clients from lone inventors and start up-companies to large corporations. Adam has experience of drafting and prosecuting patent applications in a range of technologies including mechanical devices, offshore structures, aerospace, electronic devices and communication systems, military technologies, medical devices, material synthesis and organic glasses. He has provided patent validity opinions and advised on the filing of patent invalidity actions and opinion requests with the UK Intellectual Property office.

Adam also works with clients to assist with the protection of design rights and trade marks and has experience of trade mark opposition proceedings with OHIM and the UK Trade Mark Registry.

Amanda Heath, Senior Consultant Solicitor (Corporate/Commercial and Employment Law)

 

Amanda is an experienced corporate/commercial lawyer with additional expertise in employment law.  She has a particular understanding of the legal issues affecting SMEs from start up through growth and expansion to ultimate business sale.  Having qualified and worked in the company/commercial department of a top City firm, Amanda then worked in house with major oil companies before spending 10 years as Legal Counsel to a rapidly expanding start up software company.  Amanda handled the ultimate sale of the business.  

 

Amanda has particular expertise in drafting/negotiating commercial contracts, in drafting documents and advising on employment and HR matters, in handling company secretarial requirements (including for overseas subsidiaries) and in handling mergers and acquisitions.  

 

Amanda’s experience ideally places her to provide SMEs with the services of an in-house counsel without having to employ one!
