Raymond Cooper, Senior Consultant Solicitor (Commercial Property and Planning)

Raymond is a very experienced senior property lawyer who has been rated one of the best of his generation. He was for many years Head of Commercial Property at London solicitors, Farrer & Co, but now casts his net much more widely; he does of course have a great deal of experience of transactional property work but his speciality these days is problem solving in any legal field affecting real estate. You can see the breadth of his interests in blogs on his website. You can also find him on LinkedIn. In recent years, Raymond has advised on complex situations involving easements, restrictive covenants, the right to light, landlord and tenant issues including, in particular, rent reviews and the interpretation of leasehold documents, and judicial review. Raymond has been awarded the accolade of 2016 UK Planning of the Year by both Finance Monthly and Lawyer Monthly magazines.

Raymond is an active (though as he acknowledges, irregular) blogger and has had work published in Hill and Redman’s Law of Landlord and Tenant (of which he was Precedents Editor for some years), the Conveyancer and Property Lawyer, the Journal of Planning and Environment Law, the Property Law Journal, the Estates Gazette and the Landlord and Tenant Review.

Debt collection (both claimant and defendant)

Contractual disputes

Property litigation, including boundary disputes, restrictive covenant removal, rights of way disputes,

Inheritance Claims, including claims by family and dependants against the estate of the deceased

Landlord & Tenant disputes, including possession proceedings and service charge disputes.

Consumer Law

Anthony is known for providing understandable advice in a timely manner. He lives in Wiltshire but advises clients throughout England and Wales.

"Tony gave us exemplary service and we got the result we needed.

Our case involved two defendants that didn't act sensibly with each other let alone us - this made life complex and upsetting from the moment problems started appearing.  Tony guided us through the process with endless courtesy and good humour - all the time keeping us on track and keeping the defendants  (politely but effectively) on their toes.

The eventual outcome came at a considerably greater cost to the defendants than should have been the case simply because they tried relentlessly to confuse their obligations rather than face them.

The ethical and consultative approach that Tony used kept the issues clear, his experience navigated us through the various legal institutions and necessary choices and framed the actions we needed to get the best result from complex and distressful circumstances."
